We’ve brought 19 girls to compete in the U19’s and they are loving it. It’s a well-organised tournament, a memorable experience and a great test for them against international opposition.
It’s a truly international event and a great experience for our scholars both on the field and away from it. The opportunity to come to Europe and test ourselves on an international stage can only benefit our players. We have only been playing rugby for 4 years and whilst this year we may not be quite ready to reach the finals against the best from Europe, we are fast learners and will use this to come back stronger in future years.
We came to Portugal to increase our exposure to international competition and to experience and instil the rugby values alongside kids from across the globe. It’s been a great experience. We prepare teams well; we know that they are strong and equipped to compete, but it is only when we play overseas that we can learn and improve.
This tournament helps us to provide an international and cultural dynamic to our academy that, along with the global rugby values, can play such a positive role in the personal development of a young person. It’s a new concept for many parents and children who have been raised on the more traditional American sports.
