How Important Are Sponsorships For Sports Events?

Move Sports is a company acting in sports events, an expert at organizing training camps and sports tours, tournaments, and corporate events.

This past April 9-10, one of our major yearly events took place: the Dove Men+Care Portugal Rugby Youth Festival (PRYF), the undisputed greatest youth rugby tournament in Europe, with teams (clubs, schools, and academies) from all over the world travelling to compete in the welcoming city of Lisbon.

The tournament format of PRYF, which is now 14 years old, guarantees all teams competitive matches and the chance to face international opponents. The tournament is played every year according to the WR Youth Rugby Rules. On the first day of the competition, Saturday, each team plays three matches. The play-off groups and finals (another two to three matches) are played on Sunday, with the finals taking place at the Honour Stadium at the Lisbon University Stadium complex.

Who supports us?

Co-organized by Lisbon City Council, which promotes the event and provides logistical support, PRYF also counts on the support of long-time sponsors in various areas of activity, Institutional partnerships, and media partners, whose support is invaluable and to whom we are indeed grateful for helping us raise the level of our events.

Dove Men+Care, a brand internationally linked to rugby, has been with us for years, proudly maintaining its association with the biggest rugby event in Portugal, this year as a title sponsor.

Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa has also been with us for a long time. This centuries-old institution supports “good causes” – as stated in its slogan. It promotes sports for young people and cross-cultural.

Joaquim Chaves Saúde is, for the 11th consecutive year, PRYF’s medical partner. As part of this partnership, Joaquim Chaves Saúde is present at the event with numerous health professionals to ensure the necessary medical care for all participants.

Água de Luso is also a sponsor, providing mineral water for all athletes.

Gilbert, a renowned sports brand, supplies the tournament balls and the referees' equipment.

Also on board this year is Brave Generation Academy, a school that is proud of its innovative way of looking at education, focusing on the human development of young people.

There is also decisive institutional support, from such as the IPDJ (Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth), the Sports Foundation, the Portuguese Rugby Union, and Junta de Freguesia de Alvalade.

Sponsorship in sports

Sponsorship in sports first developed in England, where the love for sports has a substantial social and cultural influence.

Today, sponsorship is also considered a brand-building tool that involves associating a corporate brand with an event, a team, or a cause, among other possibilities.

Sponsorship is a global phenomenon with a significant presence in all regions of the world, with about 70 percent of global investment in sponsorship going to the sports sector.

The synergy between sponsors and sponsored in the sports world creates a virtuous cycle that materializes into a successful two-way relationship for both sides. This makes justice to the team spirit that sports promote: union makes strength! Thank you, always and forever, to those who support us and sports in general!
